BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-5, on Friday night at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
With the setback, the Hoosiers fall to 18-9 on the season overall and in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes improve to 19-11 on the year and in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• After Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with an unearned run, the Hoosiers wasted little time responding. INF Cole Barr lined a triple to right center to start the rally and was brought home on the next pitch with an RBI single to right field off the bat of OF Morgan Colopy. Three batters later with runners on the corners and one out, C Collin Hopkins gave IU a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly to right field.
• The lead was short-lived, however, as Iowa plated two in the top of the third to retake the lead.
• Indiana cut the lead in half in the fifth when OF Grant Richardson scored a run with an RBI groundout to second base.
• Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Hoosiers scored two in the bottom of the frame to make the Iowa lead just one. Ethan Vecrumba came through with a pinch-hit, RBI groundout. INF Kip Fougerousse followed with a run-scoring double to left field.
• Indiana's rally fell short in the ninth, but not without some drama. INF Paul Toetz hit a ball to deep right field, but the effort was caught at the fence.
NOTABLES
• LHP Tommy Sommer (5-2) took the loss for the Hoosiers, allowing four runs, two earned, over four innings of work. He allowed five hits and struck out three.

• LHP Braden Scott pitched two shutout innings out of the bullpen. He surrendered no hits and struck out four.
