Bezerra, Munie Named TDS Top-100 Underclassmen
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer sophomores Victor Bezerra and Daniel Munie were named to the TDS Men's Midseason Top-100 Underclassman list, while freshman Joey Maher claimed a spot on the top-100 freshman list by the same publication.
Bezerra, ranked third on the list, was excellent in the early stages of the season, scoring four goals in the opening two matches of the year. He scored a brace against both Wisconsin and Ohio State on his way to scoring a Big Ten-leading six goals. He led the conference in shots (22), shots on goal (13), goals (6) and total points (15). He also added three assists (t-5th) and two game-winning tallies (t-2nd).
Munie, No. 27 on the list, has tallied two goals this season, including a game-winner in the 88th minute against Michigan State. He has also been a stalwart on the backline of the conference-leading defensive unit. Indiana has yielded just 0.25 goals per game.
Maher, alongside Munie, controlled the backline for a defense that surrendered just two goals in eight matches. He started and played every minute at centerback this season and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on March 30. The Caseyville, Ill., native ranks No. 25 on the freshman list.
The top-seeded (No. 5) Hoosiers are scheduled to play the eighth-seeded Northwestern Wildcats in the first round of the Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament at 2 p.m. ET on April 10 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Consistent with IU Athletics' ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, spectators and the local community, men's soccer home matches will continue to be played without fans for the remainder of the year.
