
Indiana Tallies 12 Runs in Victory Over Iowa

With the victory the Hoosiers improve to 19-9 on the season overall and in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes drop to 19-12 on the year and in league action.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana jumped all over the Hawkeyes early, taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. OF Grant Richardson had a two-run single to open it up before DH Tyler Van Pelt earned an RBI after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
• INF Kip Fougerousse hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate another for the Hoosiers and C Collin Hopkins capped the scoring with an RBI double down the right-field line.
• The Hoosiers added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from 3B Cole Barr and a single from Van Pelt.
• IU added some insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. INF James Espalin singled up the middle to score Van Pelt. INF Paul Toetz later single to right-center field to bring home Espalin. Toetz's hit gave IU double-digit runs on the afternoon.
• In the bottom of the sixth inning, Barr homered over the left field bullpen to extend IU's lead to 11-6. Fougerousse tallied a hit later in the inning and an RBI to give IU a 12-6 lead.
• LHP Ty Bothwell forced Iowa to ground into a double play to end the game in the top of the ninth inning.
NOTABLES
• This was IU's second-highest scoring game of the season with 12 runs. It was the third time this year that IU has scored 10 or more runs.
• Barr's sixth-inning home run was his team-leading fifth of the season. It was also his 24th career home run.
• RHP John Modugno (2-1) earned the win by pitching 2.1 innings in relief on Saturday afternoon. He allowed just one run and three hits while striking out two.
• Bothwell recorded his first career save. He threw four innings out of the bullpen and struck out five batters.
• Toetz added three hits Saturday afternoon which ties his career high.
