Wittenbrink Tabbed Honorable Mention
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Roman Celentano, redshirt sophomore defender Daniel Munie, and sophomore forward Maouloune Goumballe were each named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, the publication announced on Tuesday.
Celentano conceded just one goal in 180 minutes of NCAA Tournament soccer against No. 19 Marquette (2-1 IU victory) and No. 6 Seton Hall (2-0 IU victory). After securing three saves in the penalty kick shootout against St. Francis Brooklyn to open the tournament, the Naperville, Ill., native secured nine total saves against the Golden Eagles and Pirates.
Munie has been a stalwart on the Hoosier backline that has yielded just five goals across 14 matches this season. He has played all 290 minutes of the NCAA Tournament at centerback and helped Indiana hold opponents to 0.93 goals per game in the three-game tourney run.
Goumballe scored the game-winning tally against No. 19 Marquette in the third round of the tournament on a sliding rebound attempt. The goal came in the 80th minute to propel Indiana into the quarterfinals. Against the Pirates, the Cincinnati native record an assist on a wonderfully played cross to senior forward Thomas Warr to cap the Indiana scoring at 2-0. He was also selected to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Redshirt sophomore forward Ryan Wittenbrink earned a spot on the list of honorable mentions after scoring a goal and adding an assist against No. 6 Seton Hall in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal round. His goal was scored in the 44th minute after a 40-minute rain delay paused action late in the first half. He would later earn the second assist on Warr's 58th-minute goal.
The No. 2-ranked Hoosiers will take on the No. 3-ranked Pitt Panthers at 8:30 p.m. on May 14 at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park with a spot in the national championship match on the line. The game will air on ESPNU with Dalen Cuff (PxP) and Devon Kerr (Analyst) on the call.
