
Hoosiers Finish Sixth at 2021 Big Ten Championship

CARMEL, Ind. – Indiana men's golf moved up three spots on the final day of the 2021 Big Ten Championship, finishing in sixth place after Sunday's final round at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Senior Ethan Shepherd finished in ninth place.

• Illinois edged out Iowa by one stroke to earn the title.
• Indiana started play on the No. 10 tee.
• As a team, Indiana put up its best round of the weekend and fourth best-round of the field in the three-day event, carding a 5-over 293. The sixth-place finish is the best for the Hoosiers in the event since 2013 when they tied for fourth.
• Shepherd carded a 1-over-par 73 on Sunday to maintain his ninth-place position. He was even at the turn, picking up a birdie on No. 15. On the front nine, he picked up a few bogeys but earned birdies on No. 1 and 3. On the weekend, he shot a 7-over-par 223 to earn his second top-10 finish of the season.
• Freshman Clay Merchent carded the best round of any Hoosier over the weekend, carding a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday. He moved up 17 spots to finish tied for 13th place and tied for the second-lowest round of the day. He came out hot, picking up a birdie on four of his first six holes before pars on the next 10. He double-bogeyed No. 8, but came back with a birdie on No. 9. It marked his sixth top-15 finish in seven stroke play events this year.
• Also playing in his first-ever Big Ten Championship, freshman Drew Salyers finished in 28th place after carding a 3-over 75 in the final round. He made the turn at 4-over after running into trouble on No. 18. However, he recovered nicely as he was 1-under on the front nine.
• Junior Mitch Davis moved up seven spots to finish tied for 42nd place, matching his first-round score of 75. He was best on the front nine, where he was even with a birdie on No. 5.
• Junior Harry Reynolds, who rejoined the team lineup in place of sub Eric Berggren, shot an 80 on Sunday and his round was highlighted by a birdie on No. 9.
