Indiana Volleyball Building for Fall Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – This time last year the Indiana volleyball team didn't know if and when they would have a season. Fast forward to this summer and the team has a date of August 27, 66 days, until their first match of the 2021 season.
"Knowing that we have a date to look forward to makes training in the summer that much better," Breana Edwards said. "Last season it was a guessing game if we would get to play. Now every day that we show up we have an end goal for what we are working for, which keeps everyone so motivated."
With all of the ups and downs of the past year the team is prioritizing mental health and growing strong relationships on and off the court.
"I think all of us were drained of the circumstances," Haley Armstrong said. "We are prioritizing how we feel and still pushing ourselves and I think that will make a huge difference come fall when we play again."
This summer the team is on campus and spending a lot of time together.
"The girls are awesome, not just volleyball skill wise, but they are great human beings," Armstrong said. "The culture is growing and it's the most how we wanted it to be for a while. Building those connections now is going to set us up for success."
Spending time together has involved trips to Lake Monroe. Recently the team got together and made homemade pizzas.
The team knows to achieve their goals is not going to be easy, but they are ready to put in the work.
"It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication, but everything that we are doing this summer is not only making us better at volleyball but also a better team," Edwards said.
"Everyone here is genuine and we all want the same thing," Armstrong said. "That is going to propel us forward."
