Summer Football Press Conference – Stephen Carr & Jaren Handy
6/8/2021 2:42:00 PM | Football
Below are partial transcriptions of Zoom press conferences with Indiana running back Stephen Carr and defensive lineman Jaren Handy on Tuesday, June 8.
RB Stephen Carr
Q. On the influx of transfers …
CARR: I think it had a little to do with my decision to come here. This Indiana team is great. I watched some of their games last season and it was hard to not pick this school. The transfers that came in, I have to give credit to the recruiting staff. They did a swell job.
Q. On his relationship with running back coach Deland McCullough …
CARR: He was a great recruiter as a coach and I think that is tough because coaches have a lot of things to do. We built a great connection at USC. As soon as I got there, he welcomed me in and made sure all the running backs welcomed me in. We got straight to business. We had our fun, but there is only so much time for that. The fun has to be there. That is something you have to have to make a good running back room and a good team. We had a great relationship there.
Q. On what he expects his role to be …
CARR: I think that I can provide a lot offensively. I think that I will have to put the work in, just like the other guys to try to earn my spot. Hopefully everything plays out the way that God needs it to.
DL Jaren Handy
Q. On his first impressions of Indiana and Bloomington…
HANDY: I love Indiana. It is very different from Auburn. I am from Mississippi, so I love seeing trees and hills. I've seen deer in the yards, little rabbits running all aroundm and you do not see that in Mississippi. It is different, but I definitely like it.
Q. On having cousin WR Ty Fryfogle on the team with you…
HANDY: It definitely has made it easier. I can get a true feel for the program, and I can trust his word. It made it easier for me.
Q. On the importance of Coach Kevin People in coming to Indiana…
HANDY: Coach Peoples is really cool. He called me the other day to make sure I was good, that I got all my stuff, and to make sure that I ate and stuff like that. Coach has been checking in on me to see how workouts have been going as well. He has shown a lot of love toward me. As far as why I chose Indiana, I felt like I had a pretty good chance to play. The team is up and coming. I think we are just one step away from winning the Big Ten and getting a championship at the end of it, and I am excited for that. The position I am going to be playing is the bull. I am going to be pad rushing, dropping back in coverage, and moving around like that. I felt like this would be a great chance to showcase my talent and what I can do.
