Chandler, Indiana, native becomes fourth Hoosier baseball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (July 29) that Drew Ashley has earned Division I third-team Academic All-America honors for his work in the classroom and on the field.
A three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Ashley is the fourth Hoosier baseball student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in program history for five total honors. It is the first Academic All-America honor for IU since a three-year stretch with an honoree from 2004-06. The Chandler, Indiana, native is a two-time first-team Academic All-District pick (2020-21) and finished with a 3.97 GPA in biology.
Ashely joins Clint Crosier (2006; second team), Joe Hillman (1988; first team) and two-time honoree Ryan Parker (2004; second team & 2005; first team) as Hoosier baseball student-athletes to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
In 151 career games played, Ashley started 140 of those in various spots on the field – outfield, second base, third base and designated hitter. A .283 career hitter, Ashley collected 149 hits with 40 of those going for extra bases – and scored 105 runs.
In 2021, Ashley led the team in plate appearances (206) and hit-by-pitch (10), finished No. 2 on the team in runs scored (35), hits (47) and walks (21) and was No. 3 in on-base percentage (.380) and total bases (72).
