Barner Named Scholar-Athlete of the Month for August

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University tight end AJ Barner was named the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Month for August.
"AJ's One Word for 2021, Maximize, sums up his freshman year," said Allen Kohn, IU's assistant director of academic services for football. "He saw action in every game of the Hoosiers' record breaking 2020 season and earned an invite to the team's spring leadership council. This would not be the only exclusive invite AJ would receive, as was admitted into the Kelley School of Business, too. I look forward to watch AJ continue to chase greatness this fall."
Barner appeared in all eight games for the Hoosiers during the 2021 season and contributed four tackles on special teams. Saw action primarily on special teams during his first season on the field and was the IU special teams player of the week following the victory at Michigan State.
The Hoosiers open the 2021 season at Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 4, and their six-game home campaign against Idaho on Sept. 11. Indiana will also welcome Cincinnati (Sept. 18), Michigan State (Oct. 16), Ohio State (Oct. 23), Rutgers (Nov. 13), and Minnesota (Nov. 20).
