Bezerra, Celentano Named to First Team
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana junior forward Victor Bezerra, junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano, and redshirt senior Spencer Glass have been added to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America teams, the publication announced on Friday afternoon.
VICTOR BEZERRA
Preseason All-America First Team
The 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy runner-up racked up numerous postseason awards after a sensational spring season, including United Soccer Coaches' All-America First Team, Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Big Ten Offensive Player of the Tournament, All-Big Ten First Team and All-North Region First Team.
Bezerra led the Hoosiers in goals scored (12), shots (50), shots on goal (26), game-winning goals (4) and total points (28) a season ago. His 12 goals scored last season marked the most by a Hoosier since Eriq Zavaleta netted 18 scores in 2012. Since 2006, only two Hoosiers have scored more goals than Bezerra in a single season: Will Bruin (18 in 2010) and Zavaleta (18 in 2012).
He broke the all-time Indiana record for goals in a single Big Ten Tournament run (5) and finished fourth nationally in goals per game (0.80) last season.
ROMAN CELENTANO
Preseason All-America First Team
The Naperville, Ill., native was named to the All-America Second Team after a brilliant sophomore campaign. He conceded only six goals in 16 games played last season for a goals-against average of 0.36. For this career, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Tournament has allowed only 14 goals in 29 career starts.
Celentano, the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, made 59 total saves (0.908 save percentage) and carded 10 clean sheets. He has a career record of 21-4-4.
SPENCER GLASS
Preseason All-America Second Team
Glass made headlines on June 3 when he announced he would be returning for a sixth season on campus after suffering a season-ending injury midway through the 2020-21 campaign. Despite missing nearly half the matches last season, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native still found a way on the All-North Region First Team and All-Big Ten First Team and led the conference in assists (5) and assists per game (.625). He also anchored one of the nation's top defenses.
The preseason No. 2-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will close out the exhibition portion of the schedule against Louisville at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 21 at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
