Indiana Completes Weekend Sweep with Dominant 4-0 Victory over Davidson

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Indiana Field Hockey team continued its hot start to the season with a 4-0 win over Davidson on Saturday afternoon at Cristy Freese Field.
With the win, IU moves to 2-0 (0-0 Big Ten) while Davidson falls to 0-1 (0-0 A-10).
KEY MOMENTS
• Redshirt sophomore back Sydney Keld opened the scoring just 2:40 into the game with a goal off the penalty corner. Freshman midfielder Sofia Arrebola Garcia and sophomore forward Meghan Dillon recorded assists with their help in the buildup.
• Senior forward Hailey Couch and freshman forward Kayla Kiwak sent a handful of chances on net at the end of the first quarter, but their flurry of chances came up empty.
• Sophomore goalie Shannon McNally came up huge with back-to-back saves in the 20th minute to preserve a one-goal lead.
• Kiwak opened her IU account with a top-shelf goal off a long rebound following a penalty corner to give IU the 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
• Freshman midfielder Kira Curland was able to control a deflection and put away her second goal of the season in the 36th minute to put the Hoosiers up three.
• Freshman midfielder Maggie Carter put away IU's fourth and final goal of the afternoon on a redirection attempt in front of net.
• McNally held off a number of chances in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.
NOTABLES
• IU had seven players the complete 60 minutes against Davidson.
• On the weekend, IU had six different goal scorers. Those six combined for seven different goals. Curland was the only player with a multi-goal weekend.
• McNally made four saves while facing nine shots and conceding zero goals on the afternoon.
• This was IU's first shutout victory since Sept. 13, 2019 in a 3-0 win over St. Louis.
• This is the first time IU has started a season 2-0 since 2014 when IU won its first seven matches of the year.

IU returns to action next Friday afternoon with a trip to Oxford, OH to take on Miami (OH). The action will get started at 2:00 p.m. EST.
