IUVB Takes Two On Final Day Of Top Dawg Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball pulled out a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon to close out the Top Dawg Challenge. The Hoosiers defeated the reigning MAC champions in Bowling Green by a score of 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 12-25, 15-12). In the second match of the day Indiana swept Butler, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 26-24)
 
INDIANA VS. BOWLING GREEN
KEY MOMENTS
• Paula Cerame opened the match with back-to-back aces to set the tone for the Hoosiers. It was a back-and-forth battle for most of the opening set, but Kaley Rammelsberg threw down two kills for a momentum shift and it was all Indiana from there. The Hoosiers took set one, 25-21.
• Exchanging points was the tale of the tape in set two. Breana Edwards led the way with five kills and a block while Savannah Kjolhede also threw down a block. Coming out of a Bowling Green timeout, Rammelsburg and Kari Zumach got the attack going with three straight kills. Indiana got the victory. 25-22.
• Tied at 11 in the third set, Carly Mills clinched a service ace to give the Hoosiers the lead. With the two squads knotted at 15-15, the Falcons started to pull away. Despite being down by as much as six, a trio of kills put the Indiana within in reach. Narrowing the gap to a point, the Falcons came up with the win, 25-22.
• Only needing one more set win to clinch the match, the Hoosiers couldn't overcome the attacking Falcons and dropped the fourth set, 25-12.
• It was all Hoosiers in the fifth set. Kari Zumach led the way with three blocks and a kill. Indiana had the lead from the start and never let up as they took the set, 15-12.
 
NOTABLES
• The Hoosiers are now 2-0 on the season.
• With the 3-2 win, Indiana improves to 5-2 in the all-time series against Bowling Green.
• This is the first time that the Hoosiers were taken to five sets this season.
• Breana Edwards had a team-high 18 kills.
• Paula Cerame led the squad in digs with 27. Cerame also tallied three aces.
• Morgan Geddes saw her minutes of the season on Saturday afternoon.
• The Indiana squad tallied an attack average of .248 compared to the Falcons .242.
 
INDIANA AT BUTLER
KEY MOMENTS
• Down early in the first frame, Rammelsberg slammed down her first kill of the match to tie the match at 10.
• Saris helped put away the first set with her first kill of the game. It was followed by a pair of attack errors by the Bulldogs which resulted in the Hoosiers winning the set 25-22.
• Hanging on to the momentum from the first set, Zumach and Rammelsberg denied the Butler attack in back-to-back plays for the first two points of second frame. Saris added to the Hoosier lead with a kill and a block.
• While it was a quick 16 points, the Bulldogs chipped away at the Indiana lead getting as close as three. A kill by Saris put the wind back in the Hoosiers sail and they took set two, 25-18.
• With the Bulldogs out to the lead, Camryn Haworth and Morgan Geddes garnered four points to put Indiana back in it.
• Indiana took control of the third set with two Butler errors. A staunch kill by Geddes gave the Hoosiers the victory.

• Indiana extends its win streak to three and is 3-0 on the season.
• The Hoosiers move to 8-4 in the all-times series with Butler.

Indiana will return to action next weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Discover Kalamazoo Classic. The Hoosiers will play host school Western Michigan on Friday, September 3 before facing off against Purdue Fort Wayne and Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, September 4. Friday's match is set for 7 p.m. and Saturday's matches are slated for XX and XX, respectively.
