BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The newest member of the Chicago Cubs is also an Indiana Hoosier, as Scott Effross made his Major League Baseball debut on Sunday (August 29), just one day after the club called up the right-handed reliever.
The Twinsburg, Ohio, native is the 33rd Hoosier to reach MLB in program history and Effross has spent his entire six-year professional career with the Cubs organization after being picked in the 15th round by the club in 2015. He is the fifth student-athlete from the 2013 College World Series team to make it to the major league level.
A Freshman All-American during the Hoosiers 2013 run to the College World Series, Effross ranks among Indiana's all-time leaders in appearance (No. 4; 81), saves (No. 6; 12) and ERA (No. 8; 2.27). His 32 appearances during the 2014 season are still the single season school record, as he led or tied for the team lead in appearances in 2013 and 2014.
