BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana freshman midfielder Tommy Mihalic was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Skokie, Ill., native was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week earlier today.
Mihalic netted a brace in the Indiana 3-2 (OT) victory over Notre Dame to open the 2021 season on Friday night. His first goal came off a long service from freshman midfielder Patrick McDonald. He gathered the pass, defeated the primary defender, and fired a right-footed shot past the ND keeper to level the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute.
Mihalic also scored the late equalizer in the 87th minute to send the match into overtime. After freshman forward Samuel Sarver drew a handball in the box from a Notre Dame defender, Mihalic stepped up to the penalty spot. His try was saved by the keeper, but he followed up his miss and tapped in the rebound to tie the score at 2-2.
The Hoosiers would go onto win the match in the 93rd minute via a golden goal redshirt junior midfielder Ben Yeagley.
The No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will back in action tonight against the Butler Bulldogs. Action is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Tickets can be purchased here.
