LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana Field Hockey team battled No. 6 Louisville all evening long but couldn't find the desired equalizer in a 1-0 loss at Trager Stadium on Friday night.
With the setback, IU falls to 4-2 (0-0) while the top-ten Cardinals move to 5-0 (0-0).
KEY MOMENTS
• Louisville found the opening goal just eight minutes into the match off the first penalty corner of the evening.
• IU won its first corner of the night in the 12th minute. Freshman midfielder Sofia Arrebola Garcia inserted the corner and fellow freshman midfielder Kira Curland fired a shot, but it was blocked away.
• Senior defender Mary Kate Kesler took a swing at the ball off a penalty corner in the 23rd minute but her shot sailed just wide.
• IU controlled the tempo in the third period, keeping the ball in the offensive end most of the quarter. The Hoosiers saw three straight penalty corners but couldn't convert the chances.
• Chasing an equalizer, IU pulled freshman goalie Arabella Loveridge in search of an equalizer but couldn't find the goal it needed to extend the game into extra time.
NOTABLES
• Kesler and Garcia put shots on frame but were turned away by a stingy Louisville defense.
• Loveridge made a key save late in the match to keep IU within striking distance.
• IU won six penalty corners on the evening.
UP NEXT
