BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Just two days into team practice, the Indiana baseball program hosted John A Logan in its first of two fall contests. The Hoosiers outscored the Vols, 10-6, over the 13 innings of baseball on Friday (September 17) night at Bart Kaufman Field.
Indiana traded runs with John A Logan over the first few innings, before seven runs between the sixth and ninth innings built a 10-3 advantage. The Vols would score the final three runs of the game to account for the final margin of 10-6.
Offensively, Indiana was paced by Phillip Glasser with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Matthew Ellis and Bobby Whalen each chipped in two hits and two RBIs on the night. Tyler Doanes singled, walked twice and scored three times, while Morgan Colopy walked three times and came in to score twice. As a team, IU walked 13 times and reached via hit-by-pitch on three occasions, including two walks and one HBP for Ellis, who was on base five times in seven plate appearances.
Thirteen different Hoosiers saw time on the mound – one for each inning played – and struck out 21 batters to just eight walks. The pitching staff allowed six runs on seven hits in the contest. Seven pitchers didn't allow a hit, with three of those throwing clean innings.
