BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana sophomore Drew Salyers was selected as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the second time in three weeks, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
The Howard, Ohio, native earned his second-straight top-5 individual finish to open his second season with the Cream and Crimson. Salyers tied for fifth place at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational after shooting a 209 (68-72-69; -1) against some of the top teams across the country over the weekend.
He helped to lead the Hoosiers to a sixth-place finish in the event, the best placing for the program since 2008 at the Olympia Fields Country Club. IU topped six teams ranked inside the top-25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches' Poll. His efforts propelled the Hoosiers up to No. 18 in the latest GolfWeek Poll, the highest ranking from any Big Ten program.
Salyers (No. 12) was joined by senior teammate Mitch Davis (No. 98) inside the top-100 of the GolfWeek individual collegiate rankings. The two-time Big Ten Golfer of the Week has completed four of his six rounds this season with a scorecard under 70.
He also earned the distinction after leading the Hoosiers to a third-place team finish at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational over Labor Day Weekend at The Pfau Course.
The Hoosiers will be back on the course for the Windom Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern from Sept. 27-28 at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill.
