Hoosiers and Buckeyes Play to 1-1 Draw

COLUMBUS, Ohio. – Despite dominating most of the second half, the Indiana Women's Soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against Ohio State on Thursday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
With the result, IU is now 8-2-2 (2-1-1) while Ohio State moves to (7-4-1, 2-1-1) on the season.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the seventh minute, sophomore forward Anna Bennett went for goal from 30 yards out, but her shot was always sailing right of the goalkeeper.
• Ohio State opened the scoring in the eighth minute. A defensive mistake gifted the Buckeyes the ball in the IU offensive half. Freshman goalie Jamie Gerstenberg made an initial save but Kayla Fischer was there to put away the opener.
• Sophomore forward Jen Blitchok did her best to bring IU level in the 14th minute. She played a ball across goal that was blocked away by the OSU keeper.
• Junior midfielder Avery Lockwood had a go at goal in the 40th minute but there was never enough power on the shot and the OSU keeper collected the shot calmly.
• Freshman defender Camille Hamm was awarded a yellow card in the 60th minute for a challenge on an OSU attacker.
• The breakthrough finally came in the 61st minute when Blitchok headed home a Bennett free kick into the back of the net.
• Freshman midfielder Kelly Monaco was close to giving the Hoosiers the lead in the 78th minute. After collecting the ball in the box, her left-footed attempt was saved by the outstretched right hand of the OSU goalie to keep the game level.
• IU and OSU settled for extra time on the night.
• The referees went to the monitor in the 93rd minute but it was upheld that a shot from freshman forward Jordan Levy was saved off the line.
• Blitchok had the last real chance for the Hoosiers but she couldn't get the power on a 106th minute header to find a winner.
• IU's defense held off a last-minute corner kick to split the points in a back-and-forth affair.
NOTABLES
• IU put up 23 shots on the night including 12 of those on goal.
• Blitchok recorded eight shots and five shots on goal, both of those setting career-high marks for the sophomore from Michigan.
• Gerstenberg made two saves over 110 minutes of play.
• Blitchok recorded her fourth goal of the season while Bennett added her third assist of the year.
• IU's seven points in its first four Big Ten matches this season is the most it has recorded through the first four conference matches in a single campaign since 2007 (9).
