
Hoosiers Win Two Matches On Saturday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Indiana Volleyball (5-1) bounced back at the Discover Kalamazoo Classic on Saturday by winning matches against Purdue Fort Wayne and Southeast Missouri State. The Hoosiers defeated the Mastodons in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) while they beat the Redhawks, 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-17, 15-9).

Key Moments
· Savannah Kjolhede got the opening two kills for the Hoosiers. Despite giving up the lead early, Kaley Rammelsberg and Mady Saris tallied three points to make the score, 7-4 and force a Mastodons timeout.
· Out of the break Morgan Geddes slammed her first kill of the match. Up 11-9,Kari Zumach sparked another offensive push for the Hoosiers with a kill of her own. Zumach's slam led to two kills by Geddes and put Indiana in the lead with a score of 16-11.
· Kjolhede and Saris exchanged collecting points for the Hoosiers before Ashley Zulauf checked into the game where she saw the set point.
· Geddes continued her strong attacking with two straight kills as Indiana took the lead early. On the defensive side, Rammelsberg and Kjolhede along with Westbeld leaped for two blocks to preserve the lead. With kills by Zumach and Saris Indiana kept climbing out to a 15-12 advantage. Saris then raked in three kills to force the Mastodons to take a break.
· Keeping the foot on the gas, the Hoosiers would dge Purdue Fort Wayne in the second set, 25-21.
· After errors by the Mastodons, the Hoosiers took advantage and threw up blocks from Rammelsberg, Geddes, and Zumach. Three kills by Zumach put Indiana out to 19-11 advantage before a slam by Rammelsberg kept the momentum up.
· Zumach found a gap for the set point that elevated Indiana to the match victory.
Notes
· Indiana improves to 4-1 on the season. They now lead the all-time series against Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-0.
· Mady Saris led the Hoosier attack for the second straight match with 13 kills. The freshman also tallied a block and an assist.
· Kaley Rammelsberg had a team-high five blocks to lead the Hoosiers on defense.
· Paula Cerame collected eight digs.
· Morgan Geddes received her first career start on Saturday morning. Geddes collected eight kills and two blocks in victory.
· Haley Armstrong, Camryn Haworth, Carly Mills, and Ashley Zulauf all checked in during Saturday's match.
· Indiana had 33 digs compared to the Mastodons 23.
· The Hoosiers received the kills advantage, 40-31.
Indiana 3, Southeast Missouri State 2
· Saris opened the match with her first kills of game two. Zumach laid down a slam to inch closer to regaining the lead. Down 8-7, Breana Edwards saw an open gap that tied set one.
· Out of a timeout and down 14-12, the Hoosiers tried to mount a comeback with a kill by Saris but they couldn't capitalize and had to regroup. Edwards and Kjolhede recorded kills but the Redhawks offense was too much as they took set one, 24-19.
· It was a bounce back set two for Indiana as they saw the attack strengthen throughout the frame. Saris and Edwards collected Indiana's first three kills before a block by Edwards kept Indiana with the advantage. Camryn Haworth was feeling the momentum as she had a block and kill that forced Southeast Missouri State to take a timeout down by five, 17-12.
· Haworth went on to collect one more kill before Rammelsberg saw the final point to take the set 25-23.
· Down 5-3 in the third frame, Rammelsberg recorded a slam followed by a kill from Saris. Despite the effort, the Hoosiers couldn't find their footing and dropped the fourth set, 25-14.
· Saris opened the fourth set with a kill before the Redhawks would string together three points to tie the game at three. A trio of points by the Hoosiers put them ahead 12-7 heading into a called timeout by Southeast MIssouri State. The Redhawks thinned the score gap by as little as three but Indiana responded with kills by Geddes and Edwards. Edwards snuck in one more point to the set at 24-17, Hoosiers.
· Haworth pushed a fifth set with her ace to end the fourth set by a score of 25-17
· With Edwards heating up, she got the momentum going for the Hoosiers as they got out to a 8-5 lead. Letting the Redhawks back in it, kills by Rammelsberg and Edwards shut the door on the fifth and final set to give Indiana the edge, 15-

· Indiana improves to 5-1 on the 2021 season.
· Breana Edwards led the attack with 18 kills. She also tallied a block.
· Paula Cerame saw 27 digs in the victory over Southeast Missouri State.
· Morgan Geddes and Mady Saris led the defense with three blocks apiece. Saris also collected 14 kills while Geddes had three.
· Grae Gosnell received her first minutes of the season.
