Celentano Records Two-Save Shutout
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (3-1-0) bounced back to shutout the Xavier Musketeers (3-1-0) 1-0 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Monday night to close out the adidas/Indiana Credit Union Classic.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers wasted little time finding the back of the net in the victory. Junior forward Victor Bezerra, who made his return to the Hoosier lineup after a two-game absence, attempted a long ball through the defense to junior winger Maouloune Goumballe. The attack was cut off by the Xavier defense, but the clearance attempt fell right at the feet of freshman attacker Samuel Sarver.
• The Beachwood, Ohio, native recognized the Xavier keeper off his line and chipped a shot on goal from 22-yards out. The composed touch found the back of the net in the 10th minute for his first-career collegiate goal.
• Xavier registered one clean look in the first half, a strike off the boot of redshirt junior forward Felix Boe-Tangen. The shot skipped off the crossbar and out for a Hoosier goal kick.
• Junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano was not tested much in the match, but he answered the call on two occasions to make the save. The most dangerous chance came when redshirt senior midfielder Justus Kauppinen crossed into the box an fired a right-footed shot on frame. Celentano corralled the ball to secure his first save of the match.
NOTABLES
• In matches immediately following a loss since the start of the 2014 season, Indiana holds a record of 10-0-4. IU has outscored its opponent 22-5 in those matches.
• The Hoosier side has not sustained back-to-back losses in the regular season since the 2013 campaign.
• With the Sarver tally in the first half, Indiana has now scored five goals on the season from four players. None of the goal scorers recorded a goal for the Hoosiers prior to this season. Freshman Tommy Mihalic netted a brace against Notre Dame before the game-winner came from redshirt junior midfielder Ben Yeagley. Sophomore defender Joey Maher cleaned up a rebound attempt for his first-career goal in the winner against Butler.
• Celentano turned in his second clean sheet of the season and 18th of his career at IU. He also moved into sole possession of 14th on Indiana's all-time wins list for keepers with 24 career wins.
