IUVB Heads To Atlanta For Georgia Tech Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball (4-1) is headed south for the third weekend of action as they will participate in the Georgia Tech Classic. The weekend kicks off on Thursday, September 9 when they play Mississippi State (5-1) beginning at 11 a.m. The Hoosiers will then return to action on Friday September 10 with a match against Oklahoma (3-3) at 11 a.m. followed by host team No. 21 Georgia Tech (5-1) at 7 p.m.

The Opening Serve
• The Hoosiers improved to 5-1 after spending time at the Discover Kalamazoo Classic this past weekend. Despite falling to Western Michigan in game one of the tournament, Indiana was able to bounce back and defeat Purdue Fort Wayne and Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.
• Freshman Camryn Haworth ranks No. 10 in aces in the Big Ten with 19. Haworth was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Discover Kalamazoo Classic on September 4.
• Junior Paula Cerame has recorded 80 digs in the first six matches of the season which is No. 7 in the Big Ten. She also garners a 4.15 average per set.
• As a team, the Hoosiers have put up 71 blocks in 2021 with an average of 2.96 per set. This is good for No. 4 in the conference.
All-Time Series
• Indiana and Mississippi State have met once previously in 2014. The Hoosiers won the match at home in four sets.
• The series between the Hoosiers and the Sooner is tied at 2. The two programs last played in 2019 where Indiana took Oklahoma to five sets.
• Indiana owns the series against Georgia Tech 2-0. They met in 2012 where the Hoosiers won in four sets and in five sets in 2010.
Checking Out the Competition
• Mississippi State: The Bulldogs are led by Julie Darty Dennis who is in her fourth season at Mississippi State. She has coached them to a 5-1 record this season with their only loss coming to Houston. Senior middle blocker/ right side hitter Gabby Waden leads the attack with 65 kills and hitting percentage of .320. She had also recorded 18 blocks so far this season. Deja Robinson has recorded a team-high 24 blocks in 2021 while also tallying 36 kills. As a unit, the Bulldogs are hitting .280 and recording 1.98 blocks per set.
• Oklahoma: Lindsey Gray-Walter is in her fourth season as head coach of Oklahoma and has collected a 2021 record of 3-3. Freshman middle blocker/outside hitter Megan Wilson hit triple-figure kills this past weekend with 103 which leads the Sooners. She also garners a .275 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Callie Kemohah has a team-high 90 digs while redshirt senior middle blocker Paige Anderson leads Oklahoma's defense with 30 blocks. As a squad, the Sooners are averaging 12.54 kills per set and 2.83 blocks per set.
• Georgia Tech: Michelle Collier is in her eighth season at the helm of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech is 4-1 on the season with its only loss against No. 18 UCLA. Julia Bergman leads the offense with 83 kills and has a hitting percentage of .265. Senior defensive specialist Maddie Tippet has recorded a team-high 60 digs for the Yellow Jackets while senior Matti McKissock is their main setter with 199 assists. On the defense, senior middle blocker Breland Morrissette has leaped to a team-leading 20 blocks.
News & Notes
• Freshmen Mady Saris and Camryn Haworth were named to the Discover Kalamazoo Classic All-Tournament team on September 4.
• Kaley Rammelsberg and Kari Zumach earned All-Tournament team honors at the Top Dawg Challenge on August 28.
• Indiana has allowed the fifth lowest opponent blocks in the conference with 33.
• Brooke Westbeld has put up 161 assists which leads the team.
• Kaley Rammelsberg has recorded a team high 26 blocks through the first six matches for the Hoosiers.
• Mady Saris leads the Hoosiers in kills with 70 so far this season.
Becoming a Hoosier
• Indiana welcomed three transfers during the offseason, Paula Cerame (Florida), Isa Lopez (La Salle), and Kaley Rammelsberg (High Point).
• Cerame hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico and played the last three seasons at Florida. While playing for the Gators, she appeared in 67 matches with 276 digs and 49 assists.
• Lopez comes to Indiana from La Salle. Lopez is from Richardson, Texas where she was a three-year letter winner at Ursuline Academy of Dallas.
• Rammelsberg spent the two seasons prior to 2021 at High Point where she was part of the 2020-21 Big South conference championship team and made the All-Big South First Team in 2019 and 2020. She was also named Big South Freshman of the Year. The Westerville, Ohio native played in 185 sets across 52 matches. She recorded 386 kills, 157 blocks, and 53 digs.
Returning in 2021
• Zumach makes her way back to the court for Indiana after not playing in the 2020 season due to injury. During her sophomore season, Zumach played 13 matches where she tallied 49 kills, 23 blocks, and 21 digs.
• Westbeld returns for her final season with the Hoosiers after leading the squad in assists with 376 and kills with 177 in 2020-21.
• Armstrong led the squad in digs with 209 during the 2020-21 campaign. She also tied the team high sets played with 65.
• Kjolhede leads the way for Indiana when it comes to blocks. She tallied 58 during her freshman season.
