
Trio Named 2022 Team Captains

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana water polo head coach Taylor Dodson has announced its three captains for the 2022 season in Zoe Crouch, Lanna Debow and Izzy Mandema.
The trio were all 2021 MPSF All-Academic and Academic All-Big Ten award winners and return as three of IU's statistical leaders from a season ago as they bring back a combined 134 goals, 69 assists and 23 field blocks.
Crouch returns after tallying a team-high 45 assists last season along with 39 goals, 25 steals and three field blocks. Her 45 assists rank 10th most in a single season in IU history as she played in all 27 games last season.
"This is my first-time being team captain and I'm extremely honored my teammate and coaches have allowed me to be captain. I think it's one of the best honors you can get, and I'm really excited to get to work with the team. I think being a captain is something that is a really big deal. For the upcoming season I'm really excited to see all of our hard work, not only from training camp but also the last couple of months. We have some really big goals and I'm excited to watch us accomplish them." – Zoe Crouch
Debow appeared in all 27 games in 2021 for Indiana, where she added 32 goals, 20 assists and tied a team-high 10 field blocks. She had a season-high four goals against Salem and California while recording a season-high 7 points against Salem.
"I am honored to be able to represent this team and we left off last year with something really special. I want to continue that this year, and really push each other to be our best. This team has a special bond, and we bring each other up when one is down. Our team never back down from any challenges and is really excited to take every single challenge on. We also have an all-female staff that are all great role models who push us to be our best every day."- Lanna Debow
Mandema is coming off a season in which she earned Honorable Mention ACWPC All-America honors after tallying a team-best 62 goals in 2021. She also recorded four assists, 20 steals and a tied a team-high 10 field blocks.
"What it means to be a captain to me is to lead this team to greatness and give everything I have. Especially as a senior, I want to leave this program better than I found it, so I'm really excited to lead and guide everyone. This team has grown a lot both mentally and physically from last season, not only do we have a great group of freshmen, but we have also returned everyone from last season. We talk a lot as a team about who we are and who we represent. These are our pillars. We can see how much we are growing each and every day, which pushes us even more. I believe our team has passion. This team wants to give everything they have to this program. It has shown especially t in training camp. With passion come grit, love, and hard work. This team is going to shock the world, and I'm beyond proud to be a part of it." – Izzy Mandema
