NOTES: Indiana, Michigan Set for Sunday Showdown
OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 122nd season of competition in men's basketball and will host Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers are coming off a 68-65 win over No. 4/4 Purdue on Thursday evening. Michigan defeated Maryland, 83-64 on Tuesday evening in Ann Arbor. Sunday will be the fourth road contest in five games for the Wolverines. After snapping a nine-game losing streak to Purdue earlier this week, the Hoosiers are looking to end an eight-game skid against the Wolverines.
On Sunday, Indiana will wear retro uniforms produced by Adidas of the 1986-87 National Championship team.

IU Hall of Famer, All-American, Big Ten MVP and Indiana native Mike Woodson is the first Hoosier graduate to lead the program at the start of the season since Lou Watson in 1965. Woodson brings nine years of NBA head coaching experience (Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks) back to his alma mater and worked for seven franchises as an assistant coach and won an NBA title in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons. He played 11 seasons in the NBA as a player and is the fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,061 points.
Wolverines Coach Juwan Howard is in his third year at UM.
DEFENSE LEADS THE HOOSIERS
IU is first in the Big Ten and third in country in field goal percentage defense (37.0%). The Hoosiers also lead the league in scoring defense (62.8) overall and in conference play (63.8). With the win over No. 4/4 Purdue, IU is 2-1 this season against the Top-25. The Hoosiers held both Purdue and Ohio State, in home wins, more than 20 points below their season scoring averages.
ALL-AMERICAN TRAYCE JACKSON-DAVIS
Junior/sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis is living up to his preseason accolades averaging 18.7 points (5th in B1G), 8.6 rebounds (3rd), shooting 60.9% from the floor (2nd) and contributing 50 blocked shots (1st).
He notched four straight double-doubles for the first time in his career after he had 23 points and 12 boards against Nebraska on Monday. He set a Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall record by scoring 43 points against Marshall, breaking the previous mark (42) set by Steve Alford against Michigan State.
He is the only high major player in the country to average more than 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in each of the last two seasons.
He has had eight double-doubles this season and 30 in his career with IU posting a 23-7 record in those games. Jackson-Davis now has scored 1,285 points as a Hoosier, rating 31st all-time in IU lore.
Despite being limited to 11 minutes due to foul trouble, he defended a game-winning Purdue shot attempt ad made two FT's with 5.1 seconds left to extend the IU lead.
ODDS AND TRENDS
IU's starting lineup of Jackson-Davis (77), Sr./Jr's. Xavier Johnson (99), Miller Kopp (92), Parker Stewart (91) and Race Thompson (45) have combined for 399 career Division I starts. Off the bench, Sr./Jr's. Michael Durr (85) and Rob Phinisee (69) have started 154 games.
Thompson is eighth in the Big Ten averaging 7.6 rebounds. He has averaged 12.0 points over the last 12 games.
Stewart is shooting 45.5% from 3-point range after making 2-of-3 from long distance at Nebraska. That's the third best percentage of Big Ten players who have made 35 or more triples this season.
IU's bench outscored the Purdue reserves 35-4 and 19-0 on fast breaks.
Phinisee hit his third career game-winning shot (Butler in 2018 and Penn State in 2021) when he hit a triple with 16 seconds left against the Boilermakers. The Lafayette native had a career-high 20 points, including 17 in the first half.
Johnson had his second-best output as a Hoosier, finishing with 18 points. So./Fr. Trey Galloway continued his steady play with outstanding defense and eight points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal against Purdue.
Durr played a season-high 24 minutes and helped hold PU's Zach Edey and Trevion Williams to 14 combined points. He had four points and two blocks.
