OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 122nd season of competition in men's basketball and will travel to Maryland to battle the Terrapins on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers are coming off 74-57 home win against Penn State. Maryland has won two games in a row after defeating Illinois (81-65) at home and Rutgers (68-60) on the road Friday and Tuesday, respectively.

IU Hall of Famer, All-American, Big Ten MVP and Indiana native Mike Woodson is the first Hoosier graduate to lead the program at the start of the season since Lou Watson in 1965. Woodson brings nine years of NBA head coaching experience (Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks) back to his alma mater and worked for seven franchises as an assistant coach and won an NBA title in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons. He played 11 seasons in the NBA as a player and is the fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,061 points.
Maryland Interim Coach Danny Manning is in his first year in College Park.
DEFENSE LEADS THE HOOSIERS
IU is first in the Big Ten and 10th in country in field goal percentage defense (37.7%). The Hoosiers also lead the league in scoring defense (63.4) overall and in conference play (64.7).
ALL-AMERICAN TRAYCE JACKSON-DAVIS
Junior/sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis is living up to his preseason accolades averaging 18.6 points (4th in B1G), 8.6 rebounds (3rd), shooting 60.1% from the floor (3rd) and contributing 56 blocked shots (1st).
He set a Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall record by scoring 43 points against Marshall, breaking the previous mark (42) set by Steve Alford against Michigan State. He has had eight double-doubles this season and 30 in his career with IU posting a 23-7 record in those games. He notched four straight double-doubles for the first time in his career after he had 23 points and 12 boards at Nebraska.
Jackson-Davis now has scored 1,317 points as a Hoosier, rating 30th all-time in IU lore. Despite being limited to 11 minutes due to foul trouble against No. 4/4 Purdue, he defended a game-winning shot attempt ad made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to extend the IU lead. He had 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks against Penn State.

IU's starting lineup of Jackson-Davis (79), Sr./Jr's. Xavier Johnson (101), Miller Kopp (94), Parker Stewart (93) and Race Thompson (47) have combined for 409 career Division I starts. Off the bench, Sr./Jr's. Michael Durr (85) and Rob Phinisee (69) have started 154 games.

In the last three games, Johnson is averaging 17.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, made 5-of-9 triples and has 14 assists and just five turnovers. He also has five steals. He had 19 points, four rebounds and six assists against the Nittany Lions.

Thompson is coming off a season-high 18-point performance against Penn State. He also had six rebounds, a block and a steal. He is ninth in the league in rebounding (7.5). In the last 10 games he has made 22-of-29 free throws (75.9%). In the last five games, he is averaging 12.0 points.
