Hoosiers Fall 3-1 to No. 6 Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Despite a third-set victory, the Indiana Volleyball team (9-7, 2-2) couldn't overcome No. 6 Ohio State in a 3-1 defeat Saturday night in Wilkinson Hall.
The Hoosiers, hampered by additional injuries in the middle, forced a fourth set but would ultimately fall 15-25, 13-25, 25-23, 21-25 against their third top-25 opponent this season.
With injuries and uncharacteristic nights from a handful of starters, head coach Steve Aird was forced to shuffle his cards and rotations.
Every player on IU's roster made an appearance including long stretches of playing time from Grae Gosnell and Ashley Zulauf.
Carly Mills and Haley Armstrong appeared for the first time this season in the defeat.
The Hoosiers return to Wilkinson Hall on Wednesday night for a matchup with the defending national champions Wisconsin (8:00 PM, BTN).
SET 1 (Ohio State 25, Indiana 15)
• Following a kill from Candela Alonso-Corcelles, Paula Cerame recorded a service ace to pin Ohio State back and bring the Hoosiers within one point at 8-7.
• The Buckeyes took the first set 25-15. An 8-2 run from Ohio State in the middle of the set broke open the scoring and tipped the advantage its way.
SET 2 (Ohio State 25, Indiana 13)
• The Buckeyes jumped out to a 7-2 advantage following a series of errors from IU.
• Mady Saris had back-to-back kills to stop the Ohio State run and bring the Hoosiers within 14-6 in the second frame.
• Ashley Zulauf had a pair of kills late in the set, but Ohio State would take the second frame 25-13.
SET 3 (Indiana 25, Ohio State 23)
• A 4-1 run, behind kills from Savannah Kjolhede, Candela Alonso Corcelles and Grae Gosnell helped push the Hoosiers into the lead for the first time in the set at 14-13.
• Haley Armstrong made her first appearance of the season and forced the Buckeyes into a pair of errors off the serve to take a 22-19 lead and force a timeout.
• Camryn Haworth closed out the third-set victory with a service ace and a 25-23 win.
SET 4 (Ohio State 25, Indiana 21)
• Mady Saris took a ball from Camryn Haworth and deposited it past the Ohio State defense for a kill as IU jumped out to a 7-5 lead.
• Four-consecutive attack errors helped spawn an Ohio State run with Mac Podraza on serve as the Buckeyes took a 12-8 advantage.
• A pair of Mady Saris attacks pushed IU on a 3-0 run late in the set to narrow the gap to 21-18 and force an Ohio State timeout.
• The Buckeyes were able to close the set and the match in the fourth.
NOTABLES
• Five different Hoosiers had five-plus kills on the evening.
• Mady Saris (11 kills) reached double digits for the 13th time this season.
• Camryn Haworth had seven kills (.467), 25 Assists, eight digs and an emphatic solo block.
• Ashley Zulauf matched her career high with three kills.
• Savannah Kjolhede, IU's lone healthy middle blocker, provided six solo blocks.
• The Hoosiers out blocked Ohio State 12-9 and held All-Big Ten opposite Emily Landot to just .122 hitting on the night.
• All 15 Hoosiers that dressed played at least one point.
