BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – What a difference a year makes.
For the first time in club history, FC Cincinnati are bound for the MLS Cup Playoffs, and former Hoosiers Pat Noonan and Roman Celentano have made a big impact in their first seasons with the team.
Noonan, who took over as head coach during the offseason, has taken FCC from a last-place finish in the Eastern Conference a year ago to now a No. 5 seed in the playoffs. Cincinnati's No. 2 overall draft pick, Celentano made his MLS debut in April and stuck, starting 27 matches during his rookie season.
Celentano and Noonan are two of six former Hoosiers headed to the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, representing four teams.
For the third time in as many seasons at the club, defender Jack Maher and Nashville SC will return to the playoffs. Maher appeared in 27 of 34 matches for Nashville, which earned the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference.
Forward Mason Toye helped CF Montréal finish second in the Eastern Conference, just two points behind Philadelphia Union. The 23-year-old appeared in 18 regular season matches for the Canadian club.
LA Galaxy President Chris Klein helped guide his club to its sixth postseason appearance since his first year in 2013. Klein did so with the help of El Salvador international and defender Eriq Zavaleta, who signed with the club in March. LA Galaxy is the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.
