Indiana Field Hockey Heads North for Two Games in Michigan

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana Field Hockey is heading north this weekend to take on No. 10 Michigan and Michigan State. Both games are crucial heading into the home stretch of the regular season and for Indiana's Big Ten Tournament hopes.
This weekend's set of games will be the Hoosiers' last spent on the road for the regular season.
CORNER HITS:
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
-Indiana will face another top-ten opponent in No. 10 Michigan on Friday. The Wolverines currently sport a 7-4 record.
-Michigan State enters the game at 6-6 amidst an up-and-down season.
-MICHIGAN:
-Michigan enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak, beating No. 19 Rutgers, Ball State and Michigan State recently.
-The Wolverines also own a second top-25 win over No. 20 Wake Forest from the opening weekend of the season as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
-Each of Michigan's losses were to a top-ten ranked team (North Carolina, Louisville, Penn State, Maryland).
-On the season, Michigan is outscoring its opponents 33-13.
-Eleven different players have scored at least one goal for the Wolverines this year.
-Sophomore Abby Tamer has been the team's go-to offensive threat. Tamer leads the team with nine goals and is tied for most assists with four.
-Tamer also has taken the most shots on the team by a wide margin. Tamer has 52 shots taken this fall. The next closest total of a teammate is 24.
-MICHIGAN STATE:
-The Spartans have won two of their last three games, beating Ball State and Ohio and losing to Michigan in the middle of those two games.
-Michigan State is still seeking their first Big Ten win of the season. They're currently 0-5 in conference play.
-The team opened the fall with a ranked win in their first game of the season when they beat No. 21 American, 3-1.
-The Spartans have nice balance on offense with four players who are tied for second-most goals on the team with four each.
-Senior Merel Hanssen leads the team with five goals scored.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Last weekend, Indiana only played one game, a road loss at No.2 Maryland, 5-1.
-It was Indiana's first weekend of the season where they did not play multiple games.
-Even with the tough result, there was still plenty to be impressed with from Indiana.
-Sophomore goalkeeper Arabella Loveridgeg etched her name in the history books. Dealing with the consistent offensive pressure from Maryland, Loveridge was in position to make numerous saves.
-Loveridge totaled at 15 saves for the day which put her firmly in the lore among the best performances by an Indiana keeper.
-The 15 saves puts Loveridge for third-most all-time in Indiana history for most saves in a game. The top result was Indiana's Molly Pulkrabek who had 17 saves against Ball State in a September 2002 game.
-Indiana's Sofia Arrebola Garcia scored the team's only goal of the game. With less than 40 seconds left in the first half, Arrebola Garcia converted on a high-floating shot that went over the defense and goalkeeper's heads and into the cage.
-The goal from Arrebola Garcia was set up a penalty corner and it was her third goal of the season.
-Redshirt junior Sydney Keld accounted for three defensive saves, a game-high. All three of them were charted in the first half.
OVERTIME TIDBITS:
-Junior Jemima Cookson leads the team in goals scored with six, she also has one assist on the season. Redshirt junior Sydney Keld is second on the team in goals with four, while also recording three assists.
-Keld also leads the entire NCAA in defensive saves with 12.
-For assists, sophomore Yip van Wonderen leads Indiana with four. She also has three goals to her name this year.
-In total, nine Hoosiers have found the back of the net through this point in the season.
-Three freshmen: Anna Mozeleski, Jule Hufer and Emma Thompson, have started every game for the Hoosiers this season.
-Sophomore goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has made 64 saves to this point in the season. She also has recorded four shutouts this season, with ten overall in her career.

-New Jersey natives, Madi Guyer and Kylie Dawson reunite as teammates for the first time in four years. Guyer, a senior midfielder, and Dawson, a freshman back, last played together at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees Township, N.J. for the 2018 fall season.
