Indiana Field Hockey to Host Northwestern for Regular Season Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana will close out the 2022 field hockey season with a Friday home game at 3 p.m. against No. 4 ranked Northwestern. Northwestern is the reigning national champion, winning the 2021 NCAA title over Liberty.
In this matchup against the Wildcats, the Hoosiers are looking to get their second ranked victory and second Big Ten win of the year.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
-NORTHWESTERN:
-Northwestern enters the game on a hot streak, as winners of their last three. The Wildcats have defeated Michigan State, No. 21 Ohio State and No. 6 Michigan in that span.
-The only losses on Northwestern's schedule have been to No. 23 Rutgers, No. 4 Maryland and No. 5 Iowa by a combined four goals.
-In total, ten of the team's 13 victories have been against ranked opponents, including their first six games of the year. Four of those wins have been against top-ten ranked teams.
-In conference, Northwestern is 4-3 and is third in the Big Ten standings. The Wildcats are only behind Maryland and Penn State.
-After this game, Indiana will have played both teams from the 2021 national title game: Northwestern and Liberty.

-Northwestern has a powerful offense, as they've outscored teams 47 to 20 this year.
-The Wildcats are scoring 2.94 goals per game and are shooting on goal 59.6% of the time.
-The Wildcats have also earned 120 penalty corners this season.
-On defense, Northwestern is forcing opponents to 1.25 goals per game and an average of 10.8 taken.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Last weekend, Indiana went 1-1 with both games at home. They lost narrowly to No. 18 Ohio State, 2-1, and defeated Ohio, 3-0.
-In the Ohio State loss, Indiana started out up 1-0 after a first quarter goal from redshirt junior Sydney Keld. The Buckeyes tied the game at 1-1 near the end of the third period.
-Ohio State took the lead in the 53rd minute from a Sarah Charley goal. Indiana did their best to mount a comeback and had an opportunity to equalize in the closing seconds.
-With four seconds remaining, the Hoosiers earned a penalty corner. Indiana inserted the ball, made a few passes before trying a lob pass and tap-in at the edge of the cage.
-On Sunday, Indiana earned a dominant 3-0 victory over Ohio. The Hoosiers also celebrated Senior Day before the game, recognizing the team's two seniors –––– Kennedy Reardon and Madi Guyer.
-Indiana took an early lead when sophomore Sofia Arrebola Garcia scored in the 13th minute off a penalty corner. Juniors Jemima Cookson and Meghan Dillon were each credited with an assist.
-Junior Lara Mortz scored her first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Not long after, Sydney Keld sealed the game with her second goal of the weekend in the 59th minute on a penalty stroke.
-Indiana outshot Ohio, 26-4, for the entire game.
-Sixteen of Indiana's 26 shots were on goal.
OVERTIME TIDBITS:
-Indiana's season leaders for most goals are junior Jemima Cookson and redshirt junior Sydney Keld. Each player has six goals on the year, with Keld scoring two in her last two games.
-Keld has the second-most assists for the Hoosiers with three, making her the overall points leader with 15 for the season.
-Keld also leads the entire NCAA in defensive saves with 12.
-Sophomore Sofia Arrebola Garcia is second on the team in goals with four.
-For assists, sophomore Yip van Wonderen leads Indiana with four. She also has three goals to her name this year.
-In total, ten different Hoosiers have found the back of the net through this point in the season.
-Freshmen Anna Mozeleski and Jule Hufer have started in every game this season.
-Sophomore goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has made 80 saves, a career-high, this surpasses her freshman total of 60. She also has recorded five shutouts this season, with eleven overall in her career.

-Freshman Anna Mozeleski was named IU's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October.
-The 2022 team captains for IU Field Hockey are senior Kennedy Reardon and redshirt junior Sydney Keld. Both are captains for the first time in their Indiana careers.
-New Jersey natives, Madi Guyer and Kylie Dawson reunite as teammates for the first time in four years. Guyer, a senior midfielder, and Dawson, a freshman back, last played together at Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees Township, N.J. for the 2018 fall season.
