BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — After contributing to three goals inside two positive conference results for Indiana men's soccer last week, senior forward Herbert Endeley has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
The honor is Endeley's first-career weekly award as well as IU's first of the season. Endeley tallied a goal and two assists as the Hoosiers earned a win and a draw against Big Ten opponents Northwestern and Michigan, respectively.
The Blaine, Minnesota, native is enjoying a great run of form, tallying six goal contributions in IU's last six matches – two goals and four assists. His four assists this season are tied for the second most in the Big Ten with teammate and senior defender Nyk Sessock.
In IU's 4-1 win over Northwestern a week ago, Endeley scored the winning goal, assisted IU's third and was involved in the first goal as well. Moments after Northwestern took a 1-0 lead, sophomore forward Tommy Mihalic passed towards the top of the box where Endeley dummied for redshirt junior midfielder Quinten Helmer, who coolly equalized.
Another minute gone in the match, Endeley glided into a wealth of open space in the box and finished a pass from redshirt senior forward Ryan Wittenbrink. Two more minutes gone by, Endeley was credited with an assist after his shot on goal was saved and fell to the feet of senior forward Karsen Henderlong, who scored his first goal as a Hoosier.
Endeley helped IU earn a point in a 2-2 draw at Michigan, contributing to the second equalizer with the first of two assists to senior defender Daniel Munie's goal. Endeley passed down the right wing to Henderlong, who rifled a cross towards the six-yard box, where Munie was able to guide it in.
Prior to the season, Endeley was named a Big Ten Player to Watch and ranked as the No. 49 overall player in the country by Top Drawer Soccer.
Endeley and the Hoosiers are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 5) night in a non-conference clash with in-state rival Notre Dame. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
