Indiana Wraps Up Cross Country Season at NCAA Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 2022 Cross Country season came to a finish on Saturday (Nov. 19) afternoon on the campus of Oklahoma State with an outstanding NCAA Championship meet.
Three Hoosiers were present to partake in the racing with Gabriel Sanchez (97th) running in the Men's 10K and Sarah Schmitt (82nd) and Mariah Wehrle (131st) in the Women's 6K.
Northern Arizona and NC State retained the men's and women's team titles respectively with Katelyn Tuohy (NC State) and Charles Hicks (Stanford) winning individual honors.
Sanchez set a six-second personal best, crossing the line in 30:11.3 to break into the top-100 nationally of over 250+ runners.
Schmitt closed out her final collegiate cross-country race in 20:30.4 while Wehrle debuted at the national meet with a time of 20:48.3
Ron Helmer coached his final cross-country meet in his career. His tenure at IU saw him coach 11 All-Americans in Cross Country and saw the Hoosiers win the 2013 Big Ten Men's Cross Country title.
The focus now turns to the Indoor Track and Field campaign which will begin on Dec. 9.
