Indiana Volleyball Season Review

SEASON REVIEW

Following a long 2021 calendar year, the Indiana Volleyball program took a massive step forward in 2022, playing to a 16-16 (9-11) record in the nation's deepest conference.

Despite dealing with injuries that left the Hoosiers with a full lineup in just 19 of 32 games, IU won its most games since 2018 and most Big Ten games since 2010.

All-Big Ten setter Camryn Haworth took the reins of the offense as it learned a new system. Outside hitters Mady Saris, Morgan Geddes and Candela Alonso-Corcelles took massive steps forward along with middle blockers Savannah Kjolhede and Kaley Rammelsberg.

The Hoosiers were aided by a deep back row with Paula Cerame, Isa Lopez and Grae Gosnell.

IU won matches at No. 5 Ohio State and No. 25 Michigan, marking the first season in program history with two road wins over ranked opposition.

Half of its conference matches came against the top-six teams in the league, five of which made the Sweet 16 or better. IU played each of the six teams on the road including a stretch of three-straight at No. 12 Purdue, No. 4 Nebraska and No. 3 Wisconsin in seven days.

The Hoosiers won at Michigan and Michigan State in the same season for the first time since 1998. The 3-0 record against the two schools marked the first season's sweep of the teams since 1989.

The program will return eight of its nine normal rotation players along with the likes of defensive specialist Carly Mills, outside hitter Kenzie Daffinee and right-side Melisa Ilter.

Joining the program will be a freshman class bolstered by Under Armour All-American libero Ramsey Gary.

BIG TEN RANKS

• Mady Saris finished 6th in the Big Ten in Kills (427), 8th in Kills per Set (3.47) and 6th in Points (489).

• Camryn Haworth was 4th in the Big Ten in Assists (1,111), No. 6 in Assists per Set (9.03) and led the conference in Aces (49)

• Paula Cerame finished No. 1 in the Big Ten regular season in Digs (502), No. 5 in Digs per Set (4.08) and No. 9 in Aces (36).

• Savannah Kjolhede recorded the 10th-most blocks in the Big Ten with 118.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Camryn Haworth was named Big Ten All-First Team, the first player to do so since Ashley Benson in 2010.

• She was also named AVCA Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention, the first IU athlete to do so since Ashley Benson (First Team) and Jordan Haverly (Honorable Mention) in 2010.

• Camryn Haworth earned AVCA National Player of the Week Honors on Nov. 22, 2022, just third player in program history to claim the honor and first since 1998.

• Paula Cerame (Co-Defensive Player of the Week) and Camryn Haworth (Setter of the Week) earned Big Ten weekly honors on Nov. 21 for their performances in wins over Northwestern and No. 5 Ohio State.

• Camryn Haworth recorded the program's first triple-double (37 assists, 11 digs, 10 kills) since Christina Archibald in 2001.

• Paula Cerame reached the 1,000-dig threshold for her career in the match at Iowa on Oct. 9, 2022.

• Her 353 digs in the 20-game Big Ten season broke the single-season program record for digs in conference slate. She also became the third player in program history with 500+ total digs in a season.

TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• The Hoosiers finished their most wins (9) in the Big Ten since 2010.

• Since the Big Ten adopted a 20-game schedule in 1991, it was just the seventh season with nine or more victories in the conference.

• IU finished 8th in the Big Ten, its highest finish since being tied for 7th in the 2010 season.

• The Hoosiers beat No. 5 Ohio State in Columbus, its first road win over a top-five team in program history.

• Combined with the win at No. 25 Michigan, IU won two games on the road against ranked opponents for the first time in school history.

• An average of 1,366 fans came to watch IU matches in Wilkinson Hall this season.

• IU won four Big Ten matches on the road for the first time since 2009.

• In a win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 16, the Hoosiers hit .438 (40-8-73) from the floor. It was the program's 10th-highest single-game output and the fourth best in the rally era.
