SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Indiana junior forward Mackenzie Holmes was named one of 10 to the 2022 Lisa Leslie Award watch list, announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Named after the three-time All-American,1994 National Player of the Year and Class of 2015 Hall of Famer, the annual award in its fifth year recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.
Holmes is Indiana's leading scorer this season, averaging 17.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in 14 games. The Gorham, Maine native leads the way with three double-doubles this season and has 3-point range to her game by shooting 45.5 percent on the season.
She was named a preseason All-Big Ten selection, The Athletic Preseason All-American honorable mention, Wade Trophy midseason watch list and Wooden Award midseason top 25 honoree. She has been sidelined for Indiana's last six games with a knee injury.
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. In late February, the watch list of 10 players for the 2022 Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award will be narrowed to five. In March those finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.
