No. 5 Indiana Drops Contest To Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior forward Aleksa Gulbe scored 22 points as No. 5 Indiana tried to mount a fourth-quarter comeback but came up short in 96-91 loss to No. 22 Iowa on Saturday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Couldn't get anything going in the first, shooting just 26.7 percent from the floor as Iowa led by as Indiana trailed 25-11.
- The Hoosiers cut the lead down to single digits on an and-1, transition layup and and-1 from graduate guard Ali Patberg and senior forward Aleksa Gulbe to make it 30-21 with 6:47 in the second quarter. But Iowa would outscore Indiana the rest of the frame, 18-6, and take a 46-29 lead at the break.
- The lead grew larger for Iowa in the third quarter, taking its largest lead of 24 with 4:51 left.
- Indiana mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 42 points to set a new program and Big Ten record for points in a single quarter. Berger and Gulbe combined for 25 of the 42 points as IU shot 57 percent in the last quarter, but the effort was just a bit too late to overcome the hot shooting Hawkeyes.
- The Hoosiers finished the regular season with a home record of 12-2 and 7-1 in Big Ten games.
- The Hoosiers had five players score in double-figures.
- Indiana scored 42 points in the fourth quarter, their most in a quarter all-time. Their previous best was 37 against Wisconsin on 1/13/19.
- The 42 points in the fourth quarter is a Big Ten record, eclipsing the old mark of 41, done twice, both last year (Maryland, third quarter vs. Arkansas 11/29/20 and Maryland, first quarter vs. Iowa 2/23/21). It is also the most in a fourth quarter in Big Ten history, the previous was 39 points by Penn State vs. Michigan on 1/17/16.
- The Hoosiers outscored Iowa 42-25 in the fourth quarter.
- Indiana shot 16-for-28 (57.1 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter.
- Aleksa Gulbe led the Hoosiers with 22 points, her sixth career game with 20 or more points.
- Grace Berger scored in double-figures for the 21st time in 24 games this season with 21 points. It is the 17th time in her career Berger has scored 20 or more points in a game.
- Ali Patberg scored in double-figures with 18 points.
- Chloe Moore-McNeil scored 11 points.
- Nicole Cardaño-Hillary recorded 11 points for the Hoosiers.
- Berger tied her career-high with five steals.
- Indiana shot 23-for-26 (88.5 percent) from the free-throw line.
