BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - Fans over 21 attending Hoosier baseball and softball games at Indiana University this spring will be able to enjoy beer to enhance their gameday experience.
The addition of beer sales at Bart Kaufman Field and Andy Mohr Field is in line with a similar decision to introduce beer and wine sales at IU Football games at Memorial Stadium beginning in 2019. IU Athletics teamed with Bloomington-based Upland Brewery on that endeavor, and they have agreed to extend their relationship to include Hoosier baseball and softball games starting this spring.
"We're excited to offer this new option to IU Baseball and Softball fans as we continue to enhance the gameday experience at our athletic events," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson. "The response from our fans has been overwhelmingly positive about this option at IU Football games, and we are excited to extend this opportunity to IU Baseball and Softball fans as well."
This new program will include provisions to encourage responsible fan behavior and promote alcohol safety. Every purchaser (who appears to be younger than 50) will be required to present a valid, government-issued photographic identification documenting that he or she is 21 for every purchase of beer. At Bart Kaufman Field, the sale of beer will end at start of the bottom half of the seventh inning of that day's final baseball game (assuming nine-inning games). At Andy Mohr Field, the sale of beer will end at the start of the top of the fifth inning of that day's final softball game (assuming seven-inning games). Purchasers will be limited to two drinks per transaction. No beer will be sold to a visibly intoxicated person. All servers will have a current alcohol servers permit issued by state of Indiana and have gone through and passed TEAM responsible alcohol service training.
