
NCAA Indoor Championships in Sight for IUTF

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four athletes and a relay of Indiana Track & Field head to the big stage as they compete at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. The men's 60m semifinal is set to kick it off for the Hoosiers on Friday, March 11 with the championships wrapping up on Saturday, March 12.

Last Time Out: Big Ten Championships
Indiana is coming off a successful Big Ten Championship weekend in Geneva, Ohio. Camden Marshall won his first career Big Ten individual title while Rikkoi Brathwaite repeated in the 60m. In the closing 100 meters of the 800m, Marshall outkicked the field to cross the finish line first and earn his Big Ten Championship medal. Back to defend his title, Brathwaite threw down a time of 6.67 to capture first place. Freshman Jayden Ulrich had an outstanding first championship meet by placing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 16.70m (54' 9.5"). Ben Veatch took home silver medals in the mile , 5000m and with the men's distance medley relay squad.
As a team. the men placed fourth with 117 points while the women came in ninth with 102 points.
Stamping the Record Book
As the indoor season progresses, Hoosiers have made their mark on the record book in their respective events. At the Big Ten Indoor Championships five Hoosiers and two relays saw IU top-10 marks. On the women's side Maria Anderson is now fourth all-time in the 600m with a time of 1:28.04. Sarah Schmitt is No. 6 in the 3000m and improved her time to 9:14.70. The 4x400m relay squad consisting of Anderson, Morgan Snow, Shynae Deas. and Kaylee Lane captured a time of 3:40.98 which is sixth in Indiana history. Kenny Benton saw two times that were good enough for the record book. He is No. 3 in the 200m with a time of 21.14 and No. 4 in the 400m with a time of 46.95. Ben Veatch moved from eighth to sixth in the mile after going a time of 3:58.09. Arjun Jha made his way into the top-10 with a time of 13:57.16 in the 5000m. Rounding out the list is the men's 4x400m relay squad comprised of Shaton Vaughn, Micah Camble, Parker Raymond, and Kenny Benton. They combined for a time of 3:08.31 which is second all-time.

First Time for Everything
Four Hoosiers will make their debut at the indoor national meet this weekend. Three of the four carries on the men's distance medley relay will tackle their first NCAA Championships race. Freshmen Camden Marshall will lead off IU as transfer Kenny Benton is set for the 400m carry. rounding out the trio of first timers is Parker Raymond who will handle the 800m leg. On the women's side, Bailey Hertenstein steps up to the national stage in the mile.
Great Lakes, Great Rankings
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their final regional rankings of the indoor season on March 1.
The Indiana men are ranked fourth in the Great Lakes region. Ohio State sits at the top with Wisconsin in second. Notre is No. 4 while Michigan rounds out the top-5 in fifth.
On the women's side, the Hoosiers are also No. 5. Ohio State is No. 1 while other Big Ten foe Wisconsin is ranked second. Michigan and Notre Dame round out the top-5 in third and fourth, respectively.
