Indiana vs. #16/15 Illinois (Big Ten Tournament)
March 11, 2022
• No. 9 seed Indiana (20-12) beat No. 1 seed Illinois (22-9), 65-63, in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
• This was the eighth consecutive Indiana win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse since the 2016 Big Ten Tournament.
• Indiana will play in the Big Ten semifinal for the first time since 2013 and for just the fifth time since the tournament began in 1998.
• The win marked the third against a ranked opponent this season and first victory away from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. IU previously toppled No. 13/12 Ohio State (67-51 on Jan. 6, 2022) and No. 4/4 Purdue (68-65 on Jan. 20, 2022) at home.
• The Hoosier defense held the Illini without a field goal for over nine minutes of action in the first half. Illinois went 0-for-11 from the floor during the drought.
• Indiana carried a two-point deficit into the halftime break at 33-31. IU has trailed at the half in three-consecutive Big Ten Tournament matchups.
• The Hoosiers last overcame halftime deficits in consecutive games during the 2018-19 season. IU trailed Louisville 33-28 on Dec. 8 before winning 68-67 and was behind Butler 28-24 on Dec. 15 before earning the 59-58 victory.
• Indiana went on a 9-0 spurt over a four-minute stretch during the second half to take a 47-42 lead. IU's largest second-half lead was six at 52-46.
• IU held Illinois to 20-of-56 (35.7%) shooting from the floor while shooting 26-of-46 (46.4%) on the offensive end.
• The Hoosiers held the advantage on the glass (31-28), bench scoring (16-5) and points in the paint (36-24).
• The Hoosiers will face either the fourth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes or the fifth-seeded Rutgers Scarlett Knights in the semifinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
• Junior/sophomore Trayce Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers in scoring with 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. He added seven rebounds, three assists and a block.
• Jackson-Davis joined Alan Henderson as the only Hoosiers in program history to score 1,500 career points, grab 750 career rebounds and block 150 career shots.
• Senior/junior Xavier Johnson charted 13 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win.
• Redshirt senior/junior Race Thompson recorded 10 points to go along with nine rebounds.
• Sophomore/freshman Trey Galloway led all bench scorers with eight points. He added two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
• Senior/junior Rob Phinisee scored six points and handed out two assists in 25 minutes off the bench.
• Senior/junior Miller Kopp grabbed five rebounds and scored three points.
• Redshirt senior/junior Parker Stewart tallied two points and a pair of assists.
• Sophomore/freshman Jordan Geronimo converted two free throws to go along with two rebounds.
• Senior/junior Michael Durr grabbed one rebound in four minutes.
• Freshman Tamar Bates saw four minutes of run in the first half.
