Indiana University is in its 122nd season of competition in men's basketball and will play in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament semifinal against No. 5 seed Iowa. The Hoosiers are making their fifth semifinal appearance in the event, the first since 2013, and hope to advance to advance to the championship game for the first time since 2001. IU has won two tournament games in a single year for the first time since 2003. Iowa won the only meeting between the two teams, 83-74, on Jan. 13 in Iowa City. The Hoosiers defeated eighth seeded Michigan, 74-69, and top seeded Illinois, 65-63, to advance to Saturday. IU has won eight-straight games in Gainbridge Fieldhouse dating back to the 2016 Big Ten quarterfinal.

IU Hall of Famer, All-American, Big Ten MVP and Indiana native Mike Woodson is the first Hoosier graduate to lead the program at the start of the season since Lou Watson in 1965. Woodson brings nine years of NBA head coaching experience (Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks) back to his alma mater and worked for seven franchises as an assistant coach and won an NBA title in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons. He played 11 seasons in the NBA as a player and is the fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,061 points.
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery is in his 12th year in Iowa City.
DEFENSE LEADS THE HOOSIERS AGAINST ILLINOIS
The Hoosiers held Illinois to 35.7% shooting and won its first game in nine tries when it trailed with 5:00 minutes to go (57-54). The Illini did not make a field goal in the final five minutes. The Hoosiers are the top-rated defensive team in the Big Ten according to KenPom (18th nationally). IU is first in the Big Ten in field goal percentage defense (38.9%) and first in conference games only (41.3%). They second in blocked shots (5.0), scoring defense (65.5) and 3-point field goal defense (32.1%). Combined, IU held Michigan and Illinois to 36.8% field goal shooting in this event.
BIG TIME COMEBACK
IU trailed 60-43 with 12:55 left in the second half and outscored the Wolverines 31-9 the rest of the way to secure the win. The 17-point deficit erased in postseason play matched the Hoosiers effort in the 2002 NCAA South Regional semifinal against Duke. It was the fifth comeback of at least nine for IU at Gainbridge Fieldhouse since 2015. IU trailed Notre Dame in 2015 (16), in 2017 (14) and this season (9). The Hoosiers also trailed Butler by 9 in 2020.
ALL-AMERICAN TRAYCE JACKSON-DAVIS
Junior/sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis is averaging 17.7 points (6th in B1G), 8.2 rebounds (5th), shooting 58.2% from the floor (3rd) and contributing 77 blocked shots (2nd).
He has had nine double-doubles this season and 31 in his career with IU posting a 23-8 record in those games. He notched four straight double-doubles for the first time in his career after he had 23 points and 12 boards at Nebraska on Jan. 17.
Jackson-Davis now has scored 1,516 points as a Hoosier, rating 17th all-time in IU lore. He was named second-team All-Big Ten by the coaches, media and AP this season and was a member of the league's All-Defensive team. He was a third-team choice his freshman season and a first (media) and second-team pick (coaches) a season ago.
He has had back-to back 20-point efforts (24 vs. Michigan and 21 vs. Illinois, for the first time since Jan. 6 and 10). He is averaging 18.8 points and 10.0 rebounds in four career starts against Iowa.
Against Illinois, he scored nine of the team's final 11 points and made the go-ahead free throws with 26 seconds remaining. On Friday he became the second player in IU history to score 1,500 points, pull in 750 rebounds, and record 150 blocked shots in a career, joining Alan Henderson (1992-95).

Sr./Jr. Xavier Johnson has averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 assists in his last seven outings. He has shot 47.5% from long range and made 35 of his last 40 free throws.
He had back-to-back 24-point games against Maryland and at Minnesota and was nearly perfect against the Terps when he made 7-of-7 field goals, 3-of-3 from long distance and made 7-of-8 free throws. He also added six assists.
At Purdue, Johnson led IU with 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, the second most by a Hoosier since the 1996-97 season. He had 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against Michigan.
