
Holmes and Berger Named WBCA All-Region Finalists

ATLANTA – Indiana duo junior forward Mackenzie Holmes and senior guard Grace Berger were named Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Region finalist for 2022 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America.
Holmes earns her first all-region honor from the association while Berger earns her second, also appearing in the 2020-21 season.
Berger is the team's leading scorer with 16.3 points per game. She adds 6.3 rebounds, a team-high 4.8 assists, 1.4 steals and holds a +2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Louisville, Ky. native shoots 45.2 percent from the floor and 79.1 percent at the charity stripe. She has recorded 29 games in double figures this season and tied a team-high three double-doubles. She repeated as an All-Big Ten first team selection in 2021-22 and earned spots on a plethora of watch lists including a 2022 Associated Press All-American honorable mention, 2022 Wooden Award preseason top 50, 2022 Wade Watch list, 2022 Cheryl Miller Award top 10 watchlist and a top 30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
Holmes averages 15.4 points, a team-high 7.0 rebounds and shoots 60.4 percent from the floor in 24 games for IU this season. The Gorham, Maine native is tied for a team-high three double-doubles and leads her squad with 40 blocks (1.7 per game). Holmes set a new career-high 30 points in the win at Ohio State and has scored in double figures 21 times. In addition, the junior forward has shot 40 percent from the 3-point line and 80.3 percent at the free throw line. She earned All-Big Ten second team honors, 2022 Lisa Leslie Award top 10 watch list, 2022 Naismith Trophy midseason Team Top, 2022 Wooden Award midseason Top 25 watch list and Late Season Top 20 and 2022 Wade Trophy midseason watch list.
The selection committee will choose the 10-member Coaches' All-America team from these 52 finalists. The 2022 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced Thursday, March 31.
The 3-seed Hoosiers advanced to their second-straight Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history and will travel to the Bridgeport regional on Saturday, March 26. They will face the 2-seed UConn Huskies at Total Mortgage Arena at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
