BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Track & Field is back in Bloomington this weekend as they host the first annual Indiana Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m. The two day event concludes on Saturday, April 23 beginning at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: Louisville Invitational
Indiana was last in action at the two-day Louisville Invitational on April 15 and April 16. Sean Mockler won the hammer throw to kick off the meet for the Hoosiers as he heaved a mark of 64.05m (210' 1"). Makayla Hunter followed it up with gold in the javelin and a mark of 44.36m (145' 6"). Morgan Snow and Antonio Laidler swept the 200 while Snow and Kenny Benton took home the win in the 400m. Parker Raymond picked up his first victory of the outdoor season as he went 1:51.24 in the 800m. Kelly Mindak was the next Hoosier to earn gold as she crossed in a time of 2:06.62 in the 800m. Both 4x400m relay squads picked up wins to end the meet on the oval. Shaton Vaughn, Micah Camble, Raymond, and Benton combined for a time of 3:09.86 on the men's side. In the women's race, Maria Anderson, Snow, Natalie Price, and Shynae Deas went 3:46.25. In the field, Nathan Stone, Ryan Lipe, and Adam Coulon went 1-2-3 in the pole vault while Maddy Pollard won the shot put with a season best of 17.17m. (56' 4")
Mark It Up
With the Hoosiers through four weeks of outdoor competition, another five Hoosiers put their mark on the IU record book at Louisville this weekend. Antonio Laidler is now 10th the 200m with a time of 20.80 while Nathan Stone moved up to eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.37m (17' 7.25"). On the women's side, Morgan Snow clocked the sixth fastest time in program history in the 400m with a time of 53.72. In the high jump, Mahogany Jenkins is eighth with a clearance of 1.75m (5' 8.75"). Makayla Hunter rounds out in seventh in the javelin after a toss of 44.36m (145' 6").
Back Home Again
The Hoosiers return to the Haugh Track & Field Complex for the first time this outdoor season when they host the first annual Indiana Invitational. Indiana hasn't seen action at home in the outdoor season since they hosted the Billy Hayes Invite on April 30 and May 1, 2021. At that meet, the Hoosiers captured eight event wins. Among those victories, were Anna Watson and Nathan Stone who swept the pole vault for IU. Rikkoi Brathwaite won the 100m and Alyssa Robinson won the 200m to round out the returners who earned wins in their respective events.
Looking at East Prelims
On May 25-28 Indiana will play host to the 2022 East Preliminary Round. To qualify for the prelims, an individual must be in the top-48 of their respective events. On the relay side, a quartet must be in the top-32 of their relay event.
Four Hoosiers are in the top-10 of their events going into the weekend. Bailey Hertenstein is fifth in the 1500m and seventh in the 5000m while Ben Veatch is also seventh in the 5000m. Maddy Pollard moved up to sixth in the shot put this week while Nathan Stone sit in seventh in the pole vault.
Pollard with the Honors
This past Wednesday the Big Ten Conference announced their weekly awards. Senior thrower Maddy Pollard was tabbed as Big Ten Female Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the Louisville Invitational. Pollard heaved a mark of 17.17m (56' 4") to win the shot put and came in fourth in the discus with a mark of 48.36m (158' 8"). She is second in the shot put and has a better mark that makes her 10th in the discus in the Big Ten so far this season. In the NCAA East she holds the sixth spot in the shot put and 35th in the discus.
