Indiana Shoots Seven Under in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team played to a sixth-place spot in the team standings during the first 36 holes at the 50th annual Kepler Intercollegiate at the Columbus Country Club on Saturday. The Hoosiers shot 569 (285-284, -7) on the day.
Despite being in sixth after 36 holes, Indiana is within three strokes of tying for third place with Penn State.

CHIP-INS
• The Hoosiers were one of six (joining Illinois, Kent State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State) teams to shoot under par in each of the two rounds played on Saturday.
• As a team, Indiana tallied 39 birdies and an eagle through 36 holes of play at the Columbus Country Club.
• Sophomore Clay Merchent paced the Hoosiers throughout the opening rounds of the tournament as he shot a team-best 141 (-3). Merchent strung together a team-high six birdies in the opening frame of play to shoot a 3-under 69. The highlight of his second round came via eagle on No. 15 on his way to an even-par 72. He is currently tied for 12th.
• Sophomores Drew Salyers is second among Hoosier players after 36 holes at 143 (-1). Salyers shot a 72 in the opening round after making four birdie tries. He sank birdie putts on four of his first nine holes in the second round and finished that 18 at 1-under par.
• Senior Mitch Davis shot an even-par 144 on Saturday. He started the day with three birdie conversions in his first four holes and four total birdies in his first nine. He also nabbed birdie makes on three of his first five holes in the second round. He shot 72 in both rounds.
• Fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd gave Indiana four golfers in the top 30 of the individual ranks after finishing his 36 holes at 145 (+1). Shepherd shot a 4-over 76 in the first round and made a birdie on the first green. He buried a team-high six birdies in the second round to shoot a low-round score of 69 (-3).
• Senior Harry Reynolds compiled a two-round scorecard of 148 (+4) after shooting a 72 in the first round and a four-over 76 in the second round. He notched a trio of birdies during the first 18, while converting four more attempts in the afternoon round.
• Playing as an individual, fifth-year senior Evan Yakubov shot a 5-over 149 on the day. He played five total birdies with three coming in his second-round 73.
