
Baseball Collects Second Straight Road Win

NORMAL, Ill. – For the fifth time in its last six games, the Indiana baseball program collected a victory, this time a 3-1 decision at Illinois State on Wednesday (April 27) evening at Duffy Bass Field.
Indiana (18-23) opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning before Illinois State (15-21) got one run back in the third. A single run in the sixth inning for the Hoosiers capped the scoring, as the IU bullpen didn't allow a run over the final five innings.
Graduate student Tyler Doanes was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while freshman Brock Tibbitts walked three times and scored one run. Freshman Evan Goforth doubled for his first collegiate hit, which also drove in his first career RBI. Senior Peter Serruto added the other Hoosier RBI.
Starting pitcher Luke Hayden (4-0) picked up the win with four innings of work and just one unearned run allowed. The freshman allowed just two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five. Redshirt-sophomore Jack Walker thew the next three innings scoreless with a career-high five strikeouts and freshman Grant Holderfield struck out one in a scoreless frame.
Redshirt-sophomore Reese Sharp (2) came on and threw a scoreless ninth inning to collect his second save of the year with two strikeouts.
As a staff, Indiana allowed seven hits and just the one unearned run with 13 strikeouts and just one walk on the night.
Ryan Cermak and Kayden Beauregard each chipped in two hits, with Beauregard scoring the lone run and Cermak driving in the RBI for ISU. Colin Wyman (3-1) took the loss with two runs allowed on three hits with four stikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.
