
Baseball Drops Series Finale to Northwestern

Northwestern (11-12, 2-1 B1G) took an early lead with four runs in the second inning, before Indiana (11-15, 1-2 B1G) closed the gap with single runs in the second and third innings. The Wildcats put up seven runs between the fourth and seventh innings and capped their scoring with a two-run ninth inning. IU scored two in the sixth inning, one in the seventh and one in the ninth to account for their output.
Redshirt-junior Matthew Ellis posted the only multi-hit game of the day for IU with a 2-for-5 effort at the plate. He hit his 12th home run of the season and scored two runs in the game. Freshman Carter Mathison reached base three times in the game with his sixth home run of the season and a pair of walks. He scored twice and drove in one RBI.
Freshman Josh Pyne saw his 15-game hitting streak come to an end, but he reached base twice with two walks. His 15-game hitting streak is tied for the third longest since 2012, just behind a 17-game streak from Sam Travis (2012) and 16-gamers by Dustin DeMuth and Brad Hartong in 2016.
Junior Nathan Stahl (0-1) got the start for Indiana and cruised through the first inning before running into trouble in the second in the loss.
For Northwestern, Ethan O'Donnell went 3-for-4 with one hit-by-pitch, three runs scored and four RBIs. he doubled and hit his sixth home run of the season in the finale. JC Santini was on base four times with three walks and a grand slam. He scored three times and totaled four RBIs.
