
Indiana Softball Earns Five Big Ten Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana softball team earned five Big Ten awards, highlighted by Cora Bassett on the First Team All-Big Ten, the conference announced on Wednesday.
In addition to Bassett, Taylor Minnick was selected to the All-Freshman Team. Minnick and Heather Johnson earned spots on the All-Freshman Team. Grayson Radcliffe was selected as the Hoosiers Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Minnick was the only Big Ten Freshman to earn All-Big Ten First or Second Team honors.
Bassett has been one of the best in the Big Ten this season ranking in the top-three in the conference in five different offensive stat categories. Bassett is hitting .401 for the season, one of only four Big Ten athletes to be hitting .400 or better. Bassett has 61 hits, 13 home runs, 34 RBI, 16 stolen bases, a .783 slugging percentage and a .505 on base percentage.
Bassett has 19 doubles, which lead the Big Ten and established a new Indiana school record for doubles in a season. Bassett ranks second in the conference in runs scored with 57, which is tied for the Hoosiers single season record. Bassett ranks sixth in the NCAA in runs per game.
Taylor Minnick is having one of the best seasons for a Hoosier freshman in program history. For the season Minnick is hitting .305 with 29 hits, 17 runs scored, eight doubles, five home runs, 24 RBI and six stolen bases.
Minnick has excelled in Big Ten games this season with a .310 batting average, 15 runs, 22 hits, seven doubles, five home runs and 22 RBI in 23 games. Minnick has played in all 23 of the Hoosiers Big Ten games and has started in 22.
Heather Johnson made her first career start in the circle against No. 3 Florida State and shut them out through five innings, eventually retiring 15 of the 20 batters she faced, with four strikeouts.
Johnson has posted a 9-6 record on the season with five complete games, three shut outs and four saves. Johnson helped the Hoosiers to a 5-0 win at Nebraska in the final week of the regular season, the first time in Big Ten play Nebraska had been shut out.
Johnson pitched 140 innings for the Hoosiers and recorded 85 strikeouts for the regular season. In Big Ten games Johnson pitched 77 of the Hoosiers 159 innings and recorded four wins.
Grayson Radcliffe has played and started in 161 games as a Hoosier in her career. This season Radcliffe came back from an injury and has led the Hoosiers on and off the field. Her career numbers include 134 hits, 87 runs, 20 home runs, 52 walks and 41 stolen bases.
The Hoosiers open play today at 11:00 a.m. ET against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Mich.
