
IUTF Competes at Big Ten Outdoor Championships This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Track & Field is heads to Minnesota this weekend for the 2022 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 13 and conclude on Sunday, May 15.

Last Time Out: Billy Hayes Invite
This past Friday the Hoosiers closed out the regular season with the annual Billy Hayes Invite in Bloomington. After a 30-minute weather delay, Indiana collected nine wins. On the track, Shaton Vaughn (400m Hurdles), Shynae Deas (800m), and Kyle Mau (1500m Fast Section) topped the field in their respective events. Sean Mockler kicked off the meet for the Hoosiers in the hammer throw and was victorious, seeing a heave of 67.87m (222' 8"). Despite having to compete inside, Nathan Stone won the pole vault with a season best of 5.45m (17' 10.5") and Mahogany Jenkins picked up the win in the high jump with a clearance of 1.78m (5' 10"). Paola Fernandez saw first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.02m (19' 9"). After landing a put of 17.89m (58' 8.5"), Adam Strouf won the shot put competition. Maddy Pollard rounded out the victories as she threw a mark of 51.63m (169' 4") to come in first place.
2021 Outdoor Big Ten Championships
Last time at the 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Hoosiers collected two Big Ten individual titles and another five top-3 finishes. Nathan Stone and Ben Veatch saw first place in their respective events on the first day of competition. Stone won the pole vault for the second outdoor meet in a row, while Veatch collected the victory in the 10000m. Alyssa Robinson took medals in both of her events, silver in the 200m and bronze in the 400m. Bailey Hertenstein crossed third in the 1500m final and crossed the finish line in a time of 4:14.13. The women's 4x400m relay consisting of Lauren Thomas, Robinson, Morgan Snow, and Natalie Price collected a time of 3:35.83 to secure third place for the Hoosiers. In the field, Anna Watson cleared a height of 4.25m (13' 11.25") in the pole vault as she took the bronze medal spot.
Mark It Up
The Hoosiers saw a plethora of marks that made its way into the Indiana record book. At Billy Hayes Invite, two Hoosiers moved up or entered the IU all-time list in the respective events. Nathan Stone moved up to No. 5 all-time after clearing a height of 5.45m (17' 10.5") in the pole vault. Mahogany Jenkins is now tied for fourth after seeing a clearance of 1.78m (5' 10").
Looking at East Prelims
On May 25-28 Indiana will play host to the 2022 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round. To qualify for the prelims, an individual must be in the top-48 of their respective events. On the relay side, a quartet must be in the top-32 of their relay event. Seven Hoosiers are sitting in the top-15 of their events.
