Mathison moves reached base streak to 21 games in middle game of the series
IOWA CITY – The Indiana baseball program dropped a 12-0 decision at Iowa on Friday (May 20) at Duane Banks Field.
Iowa (32-17, 16-7 B1G) scored one in the first, four each in the fourth and fifth innings, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to cap the scoring. Indiana (25-29, 10-13 B1G) was shut out for the fourth time on the season.
Freshman Josh Pyne moved his hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-for-4 night at the plate that included his 19th double of the season. Junior Hunter Jessee walked twice in the game and moved into a tie for No. 9 on the IU Big Ten only charts with 21 walks in conference play this season.
Freshman Carter Mathison moved his reached base streak to 21 games with a walk in the game and graduate student Tyler Doanes accounted for Indiana's third hit in the game.
Redshirt-junior Jack Perkins (3-3) took the loss with nine runs – six earned – allowed on nine hits. He walked three and struck out six. Freshman Ryan Kraft struck out a career-high seven in 3 1/3 innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits to close out the game.
Michael Seegers went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead the Iowa offense, while Keaton Anthony and Sam Petersen each hit home runs in the game. Sam Hojnar was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Dylan Nedved (6-2) tossed six shutout innings with one hit allowed. He walked four and struck out six in the victory.
