Munie Picked for Preseason Best XI

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A fixture in the Indiana men's soccer starting eleven for over two seasons, redshirt senior defender Daniel Munie was named Top Drawer Soccer first-team Preseason Best XI on Tuesday (Aug. 23).
The Maryland Heights, Missouri, native earned the publication's top preseason honor after earning a second-team best XI selection after his outstanding 2021 season. Munie was also an All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season.
Named IU's captain at the beginning of preseason, Munie has also been named to the Big Ten preseason watch list as well as a United Soccer Coaches Defender to Watch.
Last season, Munie led IU to an NCAA-best 13 clean sheets in 2021 including a streak of seven straight in October. Munie also contributed to the scoresheet, tallying three goals and three assists.
In his career, Munie is a two-time All-Big Ten performer and, in 2020, was a Big Ten All-Tournament Team selection. Munie has started 38 consecutive matches for IU, covering the entirety of the last two seasons.
The 2022 season will be the 50th varsity season for Indiana men's soccer and a celebration of the program's Tradition of Excellence. IU men's soccer is an eight-time NCAA Champion, 17-time Big Ten regular season champion, 15-time Big Ten Tournament Champion and has made 46 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including an active streak of 35 consecutive berths.
