Hoosier Trio Named to Big Ten Watch List

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Fifth-year senior Mitch Davis, junior Clay Merchent and junior Drew Salyers of the Indiana men's golf team were named Big Ten Players to Watch, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Mitch Davis
The Valparaiso native has played 102 rounds for the Hoosiers across four seasons with a stroke average of 73.28. During the 2021-22 campaign, Davis snagged seven top-20 finishes and was twice inside the top-5 of the individual ranks. He was named the Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week on Feb. 10 after sinking a putt to defeat Ashton McCulloch (Michigan State) to secure Indiana's second-straight team victory at the Big Ten Match Play Championships.

Clay Merchent
Merchent has played 58 rounds through two collegiate seasons for the Cream and Crimson with a stroke average of 73.47. Following his debut season in Bloomington, the Noblesville native was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team and PING Division I All-Region. He posted three top-10 finishes a season ago.

Drew Salyers
The two-time Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week has carded 60 rounds of golf while at Indiana with a stroke average of 73.60. Salyers earned four top-10 honors during his sophomore season, including the individual medal at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational to open the season.

All three players rank inside the top 10 on the all-time career strokes average for players with a minimum of 50 rounds played.

The Hoosiers open the 2022-23 season in South Bend for the Fighting Irish Classic on Sept. 4-5 at the Warren Golf Course.
