Hoosiers pound out 18 hits and work 19 walks in first fall scrimmage
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was a perfect evening for baseball – even if it was the only game at home this fall – as the Indiana baseball program topped Eastern Illinois, 23-12, on Friday (Sept. 16) evening at Bart Kaufman Field.
Sixteen different pitches saw time on the mound, as the staff struck out 15 and walked eight over the 14-inning exhibition. Of the 12 runs, 10 were earned and they came via 16 Panther hits. On the flip side, the offense worked 19 walks and pounded out 18 hits – seven going for extra bases – and stole five bases in the game. Each team made three errors on the night.
Sophomore Josh Pyne and redshirt junior Morgan Colopy each drove in five RBIs on the night. Pyne hit a pair of home runs and scored three times, while Colopy doubled, singled and walked to account for his production. Senior Hunter Jessee scored four runs, tripled and drove in two RBIs in the game.
Freshman Devin Taylor had a three-hit, two-RBI, three-run scored night at the plate and senior Ethan Vecrumba chipped in a pair of RBIs.
Five pitchers produced multiple strikeouts in the game and the trio of freshman Cooper Katskee, junior Seti Manase and sophomore Luke Sinnard each fanned two batters in a clean inning of work. Senior Nathan Ball struck out both batters that he faced, while graduate transfer Wes Burton fanned a pair of batters in a scoreless frame.
