BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A standout for Indiana men's soccer during its 2003 and 2004 NCAA Championship seasons, Drew Moor announced Friday (Sept. 30) that he will retire from professional soccer at the end of the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. Moor is finishing up his 18th season in the league.
"The Indiana men's soccer program congratulates Drew Moor on a fantastic career." IU men's soccer head coach Todd Yeagley said. "Simply put, Drew is a winner! He made others around him better with his competitive edge and fierce determination.
"Drew is the teammate you always want next to you on the field and in the locker room. His success on the field is well documented, yet his biggest contribution will be the lasting impact he has had on his teammates, coaches and fans throughout his distinguished career."
The defender, in his 11th year and third consecutive season with the Colorado Rapids, announced the news on social media in coordination with the club. Moor has totaled 434 appearances, 35,929 minutes, 28 goals and eight assists during his career in the top flight of American soccer. He has played for three different clubs in MLS, including Colorado, Toronto FC and FC Dallas and has totaled nine trips to the MLS Cup Playoffs. Moor is a two-time MLS Cup Champion, winning in Colorado in 2010 and in Toronto in 2017. In 2015, Moor was named an MLS All-Star.
Before his professional career, Moor was an All-American at Indiana in 2004 after helping the Hoosiers lift national championship trophies in each of his two seasons on campus. Between 2003 and 2004, Indiana went 37-7-6 and Moor was a two-time unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Moor was drafted No. 6 overall in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas, where he spent five seasons before being traded to the Rapids in 2009. During his first of two stints in Colorado, Moor set a league record for the most consecutive 90-minute matches played by a field player, appearing in 68 consecutive contests.
He moved to Toronto after the 2015 season and reached the MLS Cup Finals three times, winning again in 2017. That year, Toronto became the first MLS club to win "The Treble" as it captured the 2017 Supporters' Shield and 2017 Canadian Championship. Moor won Canadian Championships in 2016 and 2018 as well, and, in 2018, helped Toronto to a runner-up finish in the 2018 Concacaf Champions League.
Moor has spent his last three seasons in Colorado. In 2021, he became just the sixth field player in MLS history to reach 400 regular-season appearances.
In addition to his club success, Moor also earned five caps for the U.S. Men's National Team and was part of the 2007 Copa America squad.
The Colorado Rapids have two remaining matches in the 2022 regular season: versus FC Dallas on Saturday (Sept. 30) and at Austin FC on October 9.
