Ashley Benson Becomes First Volleyball Player Named to IU Athletics Hall of Fame

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Ashley Benson's Indiana volleyball career will forever be one of the best in the program's history.
Now, she's engraved in IU Athletics history forever. On Tuesday, Benson was named to the IU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022 alongside Jenn Cristy (Women's Swimming and Diving), Don Fischer (Play-by-Play Announcer), Lin Loring (Women's Tennis Coach), Tina Parrott (Women's Track and Field) and D.J. White (Men's Basketball).
Benson becomes the first volleyball player inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame. She joins her father, Kent Benson (Men's Basketball, in the Hall of Fame, becoming the first father-daughter duo to be enshrined in the IU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Twice an All-American, First Team in 2010, Benson sparked one of the best years in IU volleyball history in her senior season. The Hoosiers advanced to their only Sweet 16 in program history, defeating Miami (Fla.) and Tennessee along the way in front of a packed University Gym.
During her career, Benson racked up 1,492 kills across 132 matches while also supplying 568 block assists and 61 solo blocks. Across 3175 total attempts, Benson hit a resounding .339 for the Hoosiers in four seasons.
The Hoosiers recorded at least 15 wins in all four of her seasons in Bloomington, including 23 wins in the 2010 season that saw them go to the Sweet 16.
She still ranks first in program history in block assists (568), total blocks (629) and hitting percentage (.339). Benson is also 6th in kills with 1,492 while playing as a middle blocker.
Benson will be inducted at the Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday, October 14th before being honored at the home football game on October 15th against Maryland.
